信仰によって生きるとは、静かに生きることか？
「静かに暮らし、自分の仕事に励みなさい。」― テサロニケの信徒への手紙 第一 4章11節秋の風が少し冷たくなり、朝の空気に静けさが戻ってきました。最寄りの駅へ向かう道のイチョウ並木が金色に染まり、落ち葉を踏む音がやさしく響きます。そんな日々の中で、「信仰によって生きるとは、静かに生きることなのだろうか」と思うことがあります。
静かに生きるというのは、世の中から距離を置いて沈黙することではないのだと思います。むしろ、騒がしい現実の中でも、神の声に耳を澄まし、心を落ち着けて歩むこと。人に誠実に、やさしく向き合うこと。その静けさの中に、神の平安と力が宿っています。
神学者ディートリヒ・ボンヘッファーは、「静かな生活とは、他者と共に生きる生活でもある」と語りました。その「他者」とは、遠くの誰かではなく、すぐそばにいる隣人のことです。家族や友人、職場や教会で出会う人々――日々の暮らしの中で、互いを支え合い、励まし合うところに、信仰の静けさは形になります。
そして、共同体を築くというのは、弱い人々に施しをすることだけではありません。互いを対等に尊び、同じ目線で関わることこそ、神が望まれる「共に生きる」かたちです。静けさとは孤立でも優越でもなく、共に歩む勇気と謙遜なのだと思います。
イエスもまた、祈りの沈黙を大切にしながら、人々の痛みに寄り添い、共に歩まれました。今日も立川の空の下で、金色に輝く葉を見上げながら、私もまたそのような静けさを心に抱き、隣人と共に生きる一日を歩んでいきたいと思います。

Is Living by Faith the Same as Living Quietly?
“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands.”— 1 Thessalonians 4:11
As autumn deepens, the morning air grows crisp, and a gentle stillness returns to the streets. The ginkgo trees along the road turn golden, and the soft crunch of fallen leaves underfoot seems to whisper peace. On days like these, I often find myself wondering: Does living by faith mean living quietly?
To live quietly does not mean withdrawing from the world or remaining silent. Rather, it means listening for God’s voice amid the noise, walking calmly with trust, and treating others with honesty and kindness. Within that quietness, we find God’s peace and strength.
Theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote that a “quiet life” is also a life lived together with others. Those “others” are not distant strangers, but the neighbors right beside us—the family members, friends, coworkers, and fellow church members we meet each day. In supporting and encouraging one another in daily life, the quietness of faith takes visible form.
Building a community, then, is not simply about giving charity to those who seem weak or needy. It is about meeting others as equals, sharing life side by side. True quietness is neither isolation nor superiority—it is the courage and humility to walk together.
Jesus Himself sought solitude for prayer, yet always walked among the suffering and
brokenhearted. Today, under the golden autumn sky of Tachikawa, I hope to carry that same quietness within me—to live faithfully, and to walk gently with my neighbors in God’s peace.

『ボンヘッファー』(2024)を観て：コミュニティの力と信仰の勇気
本日、久しぶりに新宿で映画『ボンヘッファー』を見てきました。２時間の映画でしたが、聖書から1940年代のこのドイツの牧師の話しでした。皆さんも、機会があれば、ぜひお勧めします。振り返りを書いてみます。
映画『ボンヘッファー』を通して、私たちの良心や勇気は、神との歩みとコミュニティの支えの中で育まれることを改めて思いました。社会が不正に傾くとき、沈黙は時に加担となり得ます。ボンヘッファーの姿は、《正しいことを行い、正義を愛し、へりくだって神とともに歩むこと》（ミカ書6:8）を実践した一人の信仰者の証しでした。
また、《悪に負けてはなりません。むしろ、善をもって悪に勝ちなさい》（ローマ12:21）という御言葉のように、平和はただ願うだけではなく、小さな善を積み重ねる具体的な行動によって広がっていきます。
この映画は、私たちがどのような共同体をつくり、どこで「沈黙ではなく善」を選び取るのかを静かに問いかけてきます。主にある互いの励ましを大切にしながら、日々の暮らしの中で平和を実現する者として歩んでいきたいと思います。

Reflection on Bonhoeffer (2024): Courage, Community, and Faith
Today, I went to Shinjuku for the first time in a while and watched the film Bonhoeffer. It’s a two-hour movie that tells the story of this German pastor in the 1940s from a biblical perspective. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend it. Let me share a brief reflection.
Watching Bonhoeffer reminded me that our conscience and courage are not shaped in isolation but within our walk with God and the support of our community. When a society drifts toward injustice, silence can easily become a form of complicity. Bonhoeffer’s life echoed the call of Micah 6:8: “to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
His choices also brought to mind Paul’s encouragement in Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Peace is not merely something we wish for; it grows through the small, steady actions of people who choose goodness even when it costs something.
